HISTORY
De Prêtre Orthopedie didn’t come into being overnight. For five generations, we have been building a company that has grown into a modern, contemporary orthopaedic centre with a reliable reputation throughout Belgium.
THE FIRST STEPS
At the end of the 19th century, the leather merchant Pieter Benjamin De Prêtre settled in the Moerstraat in Bruges.
His son Pieter followed in his footsteps and laid the foundation of modern shoemaking: with his skilful customisation, he soon enjoyed a great reputation in Bruges. Under the wings of his son Georges, “De Prêtre” increasingly became a household name in the region in the 1950s. More and more people with difficult feet found their way to the Noordzandstraat for a custom-made comfort shoe.
Robert De Prêtre, Georges’ son, has inseparably linked his name to the creation and manufacture of the orthopaedic shoe. Under his leadership, the De Prêtre orthopaedic centre became a leading trendsetter in Belgium between the 1960s and 1970s.
PODOLOGICAL CENTRE
The current manager, Geert De Prêtre, has been steadily developing the family business into a modern podology centre since 1983. Thanks to high-quality entrepreneurship and with an eye for modern management, he was able to take a new step forward. The company now has more than 40 employees.
And it doesn’t stop there. Kristof and Céline De Prêtre, son and daughter of Geert, have also joined the team, respectively as a pedorthist and podologist. So a new generation is ready!

Our collections of comfort shoes have been put together with great care. We offer you a complete range of shoes that is, in terms of comfort, style, quality and price, just about the best that the market has to offer.
For those we are unable to help with our comfort shoes, a professional team of orthopaedic shoe technicians and podologists is at your service. They can provide you with all the information you need regarding foot care, orthotic inlays and orthopaedic shoes.
Our workshop, where both our shoes and orthotic inlays are manufactured, is one of the most modern of its kind in Europe.
